I am drawn to this week's Evolutionary Love code:
“The fundamental movement of
reality is the movement from loneliness to loving, from alienation to
integration, from fragmentation to union. This is the movement of Eros. On the
inside, Eros feels like pleasure. The failure of Eros feels like pain.” - Dr.
Marc Gafni
I wrote an outrageous love letter this week about the idea of
Eros:
The code this week is radical beyond radical. To me, the
dharma teaching of Marc Gafni and Kristina Kincaid's book Return to
Eros means that fundamentally, reality does not
"operate" or "exist" in what seems obvious to our senses
and cultural teachings. For me--as a figure and pawn of 10,000 years of
agricultural civilization--in our fundamental relationship with what we
see/touch, we wrongly perceive as subject/object orientation operating within
give/take/receive exchanges. The conventional paradigm starts as
"Separate-Self" who exchanges material objects among other
Separate-selves, and who take resources from an inert and meaningless cosmos.
But my interpretation of Eros as "the sexual
modeling reality" means something radically different from the conventional
Separate-Self paradigm. In the "Eros/co-creation" paradigm, the
giver-taker-receiver exchanges dissolve. I can only explain it as all
unique selves give/receive simultaneously in a communion experience.
My analogy is singing in a choir. When I am singing in the
group, I am simultaneously giving and receiving as sound transmutes into music.
A mysterious new emergent song arises from the simultaneous contributions of
each unique voice. The emergent music is greater than the sum of the individual
voices. I think that is Eros operating. We exchange simultaneously giving
and receiving in what we do in the world. We can choose to see it that
way.
