Earthism (Part 2) Ch 1 Christianism, Nationalism and Economism

How and why is 'Economism' the dominant force (religion) that shapes the options of people since World War II?

In part 2 of my blog on  Earthism, theologian John Cobb puts in historical context the rise of Economism in the West.  I think Cobb gives us a framework to analyze history in terms of our assumptions of myths we take for granted.  Modern culture/myth universally assumes the goodness of "economic growth", and challenging this paradigm automatically elicits criticism as biased and ideological.

If we are going to live in assumptions that participate with and celebrate the Earth as co-equal subjects, then our call is to change the myth of Economism.  Cobb gives us an analysis and context of Economism that helps us turn toward an earth centered world-view.

Please see my notes for part 2 of Cobb's book, "The Earthist Challenge to Economism".

My question is

How and why is 'Economism' the dominant force (religion) that shapes the options of people since World War II?
