Reflecting on all children, Human and non-human

Protest on US Gov Separating Children from Parents, June 23rd 2018

Church for our Common worship yesterday on Father's day June 17th.  I asked Rev Bonnie when she posted the event page for this rally, to explain why she said the policy of separating children from parents was torture.  I asked her to share her passion about this, and those in attendance discussed.
Of course, the biggest victims here are innocent children forever traumatized from losing their life support and love of their mothers and families.   PTSD cruelly inflicted by the US Government, and I applaud Reverend Bonnie for speaking truth in its most clear and unambiguous terms.

The idea I want to capture here, is about our current culture that can so justly and rightly galvanize and stand up when there are threats to our children.  This response of protecting children is one of  the most life affirming and important for human survival.  We need more of this, and this gives me hope for our planet.

I look forward into the future, when we as a collective human culture can expand our circle of care and empathy to all life on the planet, human and non-human.  I am not there, yet, the human species is not there yet.  But I know that Church for our Common Home points us in the right direction.  I want to share more on my thoughts about this.

Mothers have a cosmic and transcendent relationship with children as the vessels of creation of human life.  I can only imagine how the act of birthing human consciousness permeates the connections to hearts and bones.  I believe very naively that if human culture could celebrate the deep time four billion year story of life--the most holy story in the cosmos of life emerging and dying toward more complexity--if we in the year 2018 as the first generations of human culture to know this story of life and we would celebrate this story, that we would realize that we as humans emerge out of the community of life just as much as our own children emerge from the bodies of parents.

My own glimpse of this is that homo sapiens got our water-based eyes developed by the worms; that we received by grace our lungs developed by the fish, and our reproductive system of egg and sperm from the reptiles.  If we are willing to look into deep time, we find that we are cosmically connected to the bacteria, and the crustaceans, and the fish, and the reptiles.  We would not be manipulating symbols now in our consciousness reflecting as homo sapiens today unless we were part of the earth family.

I have faith and hope and prayer for the day when human culture will grow and awaken to be able to read the scripture locked in our fossil records, and read the scripture locked in the light radiating from the lives of stars, and read the scripture of ancient wisdom from Jesus and prophets to give us co-creating spiritual love for all life upon which we depend.  Life that if we continue to destroy, will spell doom for our species and we shall perish.
