Moving from Mechanism to Earthism (Passage #2)

Moving from Mechanism to Earthism (Passage #2)
It seems so easy to transform people’s relationship to the earth.  Explain the problem of thinking of the earth as a machine. Then, teach them to treat the earth and all life as co-equal partners.  Once they “understand”, they will change. Obviously, it does not work. Otherwise, philosophy may have persuaded humans to change to ecological sustainability a long time ago.
What transforms us is love and pain.  Relationships and the living force of consciousness is more fundamental in the universe than the physical matter objects of the thinking mind.   Loving unifies and creates newness; Loving creates a new universe. I feel that my awareness arises from a quantum essence of love; the same self-organizing seamlessness from which atoms, stars, planets, and all living beings arise.
Like from the love binding quantum radiation and light forming the first protons and neutrons;
Like from the love of electromagnetic force which organized the first atoms;
Like from the love of gravity which forged the first stars;
Like from the pain of supernovae transforming hydrogen atoms into gold atoms
Like from the love bonding in chemistry which emerged cell membranes and DNA molecules;
Like from the pain of asteroids killing dinosaurs and allowing mammals to flourish;
And now, the earth calls for individuals to love life and wholeness through the witness of pain and sacrifice of millions of species facing extinction. What I perceive as love in the quantum world, and love in gravity, is the same love that operates in humans when we gather in church, when we struggle for social justice, when we love each other.  Now, as our future is at stake, as life sacrifices its sacred diversity, every small group becomes a holy call for humans to love.
Earthism calls us to create new love in collective symbols, as the symbols of rugged individualism die. God calls us from the future to love life, celebrate diversity and wholeness.  May we transcend the love taught to individual humans, and co-create the new love of collective conscious Earthism.
