Moving from Mechanism to Earthism (Passage #3)
I close my eyes and think of a beautiful 5-year old child today. This child can be any ethnicity, skin color, or hair color. I call her “HOPE”. I visualize HOPE as vividly as possible, she is laughing, dancing, crying, and sleeping. Now I imagine HOPE aging into the future from the year 2018. What does she look like as she ages from teens, through middle age, and then at the end of the century in the year 2100? What kind of world will 87 year-old HOPE be living in? Will there be tigers, and elephants, and sea turtles in this world? What type of world did I create in 2018 for HOPE at age 87? What we do today, how we believe and act matters. I want to live my life making decisions about HOPE’s world in 2100. Our greatest disservice to the future is unconscious belief and action in an unhealthy myth of reality and truth. Does money and wealth today matter? Does loving your neighbor, celebrating life and the earth today matter? We have a choice.
